drink it in

There are some moments that are just absolutely perfect, when I sit and close my eyes, breathe, and am simply grateful for where I am at that exact moment.

Today I had one of those..it was a great beach day. Perfect for a quiet read, since it was a bit "chilly" (read: below 80 degrees here in Hawaii) for me to actually get in the water.
The kids were undeterred though. Guess I have to stop calling them 'kids' at some point, with the older two turning 20 and 18 this year. Still, it was fun to watch my not-boys together, as our oldest is home for summer break from college. Neither will ever admit in a thousand years that they missed the other, but I think I can kind of tell..

I lifted my head from my book a few times to take it all in--the waves, the wind, the kids...watching my girls wander down the beach, being silly with each other, running, yelling, kicking sand. They are beautiful, and it's a joy to watch them each come into their own personalities, strong opinions, and lovely spirits.

our photographer!
All in all, it was a good day for me not to dwell on the fact that I will soon be the mother of two graduates, that I'm a little tired of this TDY-grind we find ourselves in as I make yet another trip to the airport, or that I'm not really sure how my life is going to look in a couple of years with how quickly everything keeps changing. It seems at times that the only constant IS change. But, nope, no time for that today. We are here, we are together. We are at the beach, and life is good.

"Lead, Kindly Light, amidst th'encircling gloom,
Lead Thou me on!
The night is dark, and I am far from home,
Lead Thou me on!
Keep Thou my feet; I do not ask to see
The distant scene; one step enough for me."
(John Henry Newman)
